A little preparation can help you feel more comfortable.
At Harbor Bay Pediatric Dentistry, we want you to understand what to expect as you prepare for your child’s care. This page offers a general overview. Your child’s anesthesia team will provide and confirm the specific instructions you need to follow.
We Will Contact You Before Treatment
Before your child’s sedation appointment, a licensed medical anesthesiologist or a nurse from the pediatric dental anesthesia team will reach out to you to review your child’s medical information and confirm all pre-sedation instructions.
Please be ready to discuss medical conditions, allergies, medications, previous surgeries or anesthesia experiences, and any recent illnesses. This conversation is also an opportunity to ask questions and share concerns.
Food, Drinks, and Medications
Your child will need to follow specific instructions about eating and drinking before sedation. The anesthesia team will explain exactly when to stop food and liquids, what is permitted, and how to handle your child’s usual medications.
Follow the instructions provided directly by the anesthesia team. If anything is unclear, or your child eats or drinks after the instructed cutoff time, contact the team before treatment.
Planning for the Day
Plan for a parent or responsible adult to accompany your child and supervise them afterward. Keep the rest of the day available for rest and recovery. Before you leave, the team will explain care at home, eating and drinking, and when your child may return to normal activities.
Please let the team know if your child develops a fever, cough, congestion, or another change in health before the appointment.
We’re Here to Help
If you have questions while preparing, please contact our office directly. We want you to feel informed and supported throughout the process.
This page is a general introduction, not your child’s final preparation instructions. Your anesthesia team will confirm the medical information and directions that apply specifically to your child before sedation.
